Zulunkhuni River Lodge offers seperate chalets or “bandas”, dorm or camping accommodation. All private, unique and hidden amongst granite outcrops and jungle glades.
Bandas
Each banda has its own lakeside balcony with access to the water. There are currently two double rooms, one family room (double & single bed), and one twin room.
Dorm
The spacious dorm sleeps seven people and also has a private balcony shared by dorm guests.
Camping
There are numerous camp sites throughout the lodge’s tropical gardens and more private sites overlooking the waterfalls.
Mattresses & bedding are available to all our campers for a small charge. We also have a couple of tents available to rent for those guests without their own (or for those arriving in the dark when putting up their tent is the last thing they feel like doing!)
Prices (per person)
Due to the unstable Malawian economy at present we are advertising our pricing in US dollars ($). We do accept and encourage Malawian Kwacha (MK) – the price in MK will be equivalent to advertised $ price at the relevant bank rate.

Necessities
Mosquito repellent and anti malarial drugs are necessary (although for much of the year, due to its location, Ruarwe is mosquito free). Torches, waterproof clothing, first aid kit, bathing towels, swimming costumes, Rafters or waterproof sandals are necessary for river walks, as are sun block and sun glasses. Although we do have snorkelling equipment it is advisable to bring your own to use at your own leisure.
Communication
The only form of communication from Zulunkhuni River Lodge to the outside world is via our satellite telephone which is available to our guests in emergencies (non-emergencies the calls will be charged at $4 per minute to anywhere in the world).
Laundry
A hand-wash laundry service is available at the following prices:
Small items: MK20 per item
socks, underwear, hats etc
Medium items: MK40 per item
t-shirts, vest tops, shorts, skirts
Large items: MK60 per item
trousers, towels, jumpers, coats
Supersize items: MK150 per item
tents, sleeping bags
Please allow 24 hours to wash and dry. Handing items to us in the morning is obviously preferable as clothes dry much slower by moonlight! In the rainy season we cannot guarantee clothes will dry as quickly for obvious reasons….
